Receptive guide for engineering teams

In Receptive, it's really easy to:

  • Communicate with the product team on the status of feature requests from within JIRA or other tools
  • Back up your development decisions with data
  • Easily dial in development effort of features

In this guide:

Logging in

To login to Receptive, go to and click the "Log in" button in the top right corner. Once you're logged in, bookmark your dashboard page for quick access ( 

Note: Remember not to log in through your app! That's for customers only, and you'll miss out on all of your admin rights.

How to set the development effort of a feature

Want to uncover which features are your quick wins? Big, important features? Or the features you should definitely avoid?

All you need to do is dial in the development effort of features to plot them against the value:


Here are two ways to set the effort in Receptive:

1. Bulk editing from the Reports page:

Go to "Reports" in the left-hand navigation, and select the Effort vs. Value report from the right-hand side.


Then click on "Add / update estimates".


On the left you'll see requests that are yet to have an estimate. These will be populated one at a time for you to work through. (See "1" below.)

On the right you can edit estimates that you've already made. (See "2" below.)


Click "Back" to save the features.

2. From the individual feature request page:

Open the feature you'd like to set the effort of.

Click the "Edit" button in the top-right corner and scroll down slightly to find the "Feature Effort" slider and dial in the estimate there, making sure to click on "Save Changes" before you leave.

Creating a feature

You probably know that Receptive gives your customers a dashboard to vote & prioritize their requests. But as a team member you also have needs from your product. You can create a new feature request by clicking the "Suggest" link in the left-hand navigation.

Add a title and a description, including your use case and why this would make your job easier:


Updating your priorities

Once you've voted/created 2+ features you can update your priorities. This way your product team will know what's most important to you and your team. You can find your priorities on your "Dashboard".


Requesting Receptive features

Just login to your account from 
the homepage.

From the dropdown menu in the top right corner, select "Request Receptive feature".


You're now in our customer view (we call it "Meta-Receptive") and you can suggest, search, vote & prioritize features you'd like to see us build.

Tip: Remember to include your use case so our product team can understand the problem you're having when considering your feature.
